Adrian Alui Gheorghe
Adrian Alui Gheorghe was born on 6 July 1958. He is a graduate of the Philology Faculty of the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Jassy. In 2004 he was awarded a Doctorate in Philology for his thesis Unaging Death and the Tragic Sentiment of Time. In 2010 he was awarded the Medal for Cultural Merit in the rank of Officer, Category A. He has been an honorary citizen of Piatra Neamt since 2005. He is the author of numerous books of poetry, essays, plays and journalism. In 2001 he received the Prize of the Union of Romanian Writers for his collection of poems Fallen Angel. The Jassy branch of the Union of Writers has bestowed on him numerous prizes for his poetry, prose and essays. He is also the recipient of the Balkanica Prize for poetry (Braila, 2010), among others. His prose works include: Titanic Schweitzer. Moments and Sketches (1997), Goliath (1999), The Old Man and Marta (2002, second edition, 2005), Romania Made Easy to Understand (2003), What is the Point of Living in Transition-period Romania? (2005), Cold, an epistolary novel co-authored with Aurel Dumitrascu (2008), and the novel The Consequence (2013).
